Most storm damage can't be spotted from the ground. Hail can bruise shingles and knock off their protective granules. Wind can break the seal that holds shingles down. Neither may leak right away, but both shorten the life of your roof. The Upstate sees spring hailstorms, summer thunderstorms, and the remnants of tropical systems, like Hurricane Helene in 2024.

When hail hits an asphalt shingle, it can knock off granules and crack the mat underneath. These "bruises" often look like dark spots.

How soon should I get my roof checked after a storm?
As soon as you can. Many insurance policies have deadlines for reporting damage, so check yours.
How big does hail have to be to damage a roof?
It depends on the age and type of your shingles, the wind, and how directly the hail hits. Even smaller hail can damage an older roof. An inspection is the only way to know.
Will filing a claim raise my rates?
That depends on your insurer and policy. Ask your insurance agent. We'll never pressure you to file.
Can I choose my own roofing contractor?
Generally, yes. Check your policy or ask your agent if you're unsure.
Do you offer emergency roof tarping?
Yes. If a storm has opened up your roof and water is getting in, call us and we'll tarp it as soon as we can.
